The Constitution State: Connecticut
My second destination from New Jersey for my “Foliage Hunt” was the state of Connecticut. I stayed in Old Saybrook, a small town within the state. While some hues may not be fully apparent, the colors are gradually transforming, inviting observers to witness their vibrant green pathways and vibrant wildflowers lining the Connecticut River. The dramatic sky is adorned with dark clouds, suggesting impending rain. Despite the cloudy weather, I was captivated by the exquisite landscape and some of its vibrant autumn leaves that herald the arrival of fall.
Be prepared for weather changes. While my family and I were out and about, it rained on and off. However, weather rapidly changes from sunny to cloudy to raining again in just a few minutes. This did not dampen our spirits, as there were many things to see and the scenery was simply majestic. As the saying goes, “There’s no such thing as bad weather only inappropriate clothing.”
I explored the historic steamed train and riverboat ride, a popular activity for visitors to the state. The train offers a dinner train ride, but if not booked in advance, one may not be able to secure a seat. Therefore, I opted for the regular train and riverboat ride, which provided me with a glimpse of the surrounding scenery.
Old Saybrook is also home to a highly rated pizza place called the “Old Saybrook Pizza Palace,” where my family and I indulged in some of the most delicious pizza in town. The atmosphere at the pizzeria is also very relaxing, making it a pleasant place to spend time.
Since we were staying in a small town, I decided to stay only one day. It was well worth the time for the experience and the historical values I learned during my stay. I captured some wonderful images of the trains, boats, and the Connecticut River and landscape, which I will cherish for years to come.
If one decides to visit this town, I am sure there are more things to do. However, above are a must-do activity on your list.
