  • Rhode Island’s Hidden Gems: Art, Dining, and Nature

    Rhode Island, The Ocean State

This is the third stop of my foliage hunt trip, and while it may sound exciting, it is beginning to take a toll on me. Vacationing can be enjoyable, but it can also be exhausting when it starts to feel like a burden. Being on the road, driving, and sleeping in unfamiliar accommodations can be quite tiring. I have begun to miss home, my own bed, and my routine. However, as I am in the midst of my planned trip, I am still determined to continue.

Rhode Island provided me with an unforgettable experience. The foliage was not quite evident, but Rhode Island has its own unique offerings. I spent two days in this state. I visited the Norman Bird Sanctuary on a dreary day. The muddy hike was challenging, but I was able to get a glimpse of the lake. Multiple birds, cormorants, and ducks were present. I also had a walk down the Newport Scenic Byway, commonly known as the Ocean Drive.

On another day, I dedicated myself to shopping and dining at Bowen’s Wharf. I had the opportunity to visit the Umbrella Sky Art, a remarkable installation that showcases a colorful array of umbrellas, meticulously arranged and connected to form a rooftop on an open space. The artwork offers an awe-inspiring panoramic view of the blue sky. It is intriguing to contemplate the techniques employed in suspending and floating the umbrellas, creating such a captivating visual experience.

My family and I feasted at two of the well-known restaurants. We had to spend most of our day in the area. We had lunch at Tiki Bar and Fish House and dinner at the Lobster Bar. Both restaurants were excellent choices and offered great value for money.

Hotel accommodations were relatively easy to find, as there are many options available depending on your location and activities. This was not a problem for me and my family. Again, researching based on your needs and activities is the key. For me, as a photographer, I was hoping to find scenic views, which I was able to do and more. The above places are definitely a must-visit.
